KALIBO, Aklan, April 5 (PIA6) -- The Provincial Local Price Coordinating Council (PLPCC) here is planning to conduct visitations in public markets to see if weighing scales used by vendors are not tampered.

This plan was brought up during a recent meeting of the PLPCC here with the aim of ensuring that market goers always get their money’s worth when buying their food supplies at public markets.

The council saw this need in the wake of rising prices of goods in the market, especially fish and meat which depend on supply and demand.

According to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr., one way to ensure that weighing scales are in good condition is by calibrating them.

"We must also write the mayors of all municipalities in Aklan to reactivate their Municipal Price Coordinating Councils (MPCCs) and monitor or install their Timbangan Ng Bayan," Cadena said.

He also revealed in the meeting that as its way of helping inform the people of the current prices of manufactured goods in the market, DTI-Aklan has mounted price bulletins at selected public markets in Aklan at vantage areas.

The PLPCC is chaired by Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez with Cadena as the Vice Chairperson. (JCM/VGV-PIA 6, Aklan)
