KALIBO, Aklan, March 27 (PIA) -- The province of Aklan is currently enjoying sufficient supply of commodities while prices are within Suggested Retail Price (SRP), according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here.

During the first quarter meeting of the Provincial Local Price Coordinating Council (PLPCC), DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. said that per their latest monitoring activity held March 12, they also found out that there were no changes in prices of basic necessities sold at Aklan’s supermarkets and grocery stores.

Cadena said DTI was able to monitor supplies of basic necessities and goods sold at 10 supermarket/grocery stores and five stalls at the Kalibo Wet Market.

As for prices of prime commodities, the DTI noted that only Safeguard Toilet soap had an increase in prices. Its 90g bar, which cost P24 pesos during February 21, increased to P25.65 as of March 12. Meanwhile, its 135 g. bar, priced at P33.50 jumped to P35.50 as of latest monitoring.

The price of a 60 g. bar of Safeguard at the wet market also registered an increase – from P15 as of February 21, the same item could now be bought for P16.

At the wet market, a can of 300 ml Alaska Condensed Milk can now be bought for P37.50, sold a month earlier for P35.10.

The DTI said the increase in the price of 300 ml Alaska Condensed Milk is due to a higher purchase price from a local supermarket while the increase in the prices of prime commodity Safeguard soap is due to the adjustment made by the stores to the new SRP effective February 23, 2012.

In the same report, the DTI shared that construction and electrical supplies in Aklan had not increased in prices based on their monitoring activity conducted at 6 stores in Kalibo on the same period. (JCM/VGV PIA 6 Aklan)
