DTI strengthens price monitoring activities through CLEEP

Kalibo, Aklan (21 April) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here is further strengthening its price monitoring activities through the implementation of Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. said, that under this scheme, the DTI will deploy to various parts of the province job hirees of the agency to conduct monitoring of prices of basic and prime commodities under its jurisdiction.

"They will conduct price monitoring for 3 to 6 months to augment DTI's price monitoring force. At the same time, the agency will be providing employment opportunities to Aklanons", Director Cadena said.

PD Cadena said this program will be implemented nationwide, with Western Visayas getting 30 slots. Aklan will have 4 temporary job hirees while the rest of the slots will be shared by Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Antique and Guimaras.

The price monitoring activity will be a way to know the real situation as far the the price of basic goods and commodities is concerned, especially in this period of global financial crisis, according to the DTI Provincial Director.

The result of the price monitoring activity, which will have a weekly consolidated result, will be open to the public, Cadena assured.

Recently when President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Aklan, she stressed that the government is focusing more on job creation and ensuring low price of goods to help address the global financial crisis affecting the Filipinos. (PIA)
