DTI to hold forum on consumerism

Kalibo, Aklan (5 October) -- In a move to heighten the Aklanons' awareness about consumer rights and enhance their knowledge on the significance of standards quality and safe electrical/hardware products, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here will be organizing a Forum on Consumerism, Product Standards and Safety Showcase on October 14 at the ACP Centrepoint in Kalibo.

The forum also aims to inform the public of the different consumer welfare advocacies of the government and other private agencies.

According to DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena, Jr., the forum is one of the activities to be conducted by their office in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month and in observance of the Product Standards and Intelectual Property Rights Weeks this October.

Cadena said target participants in the forum include consumers coming from the different sectors (government, academe, students, Pos/NGOs, business, professional groups and civil society.

"Resource persons will be from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Product Standards (BPS), and Philippine Product Safety and Quality Foundation, Inc. (PPSQFI)," Cadena said in his letter inviting stakeholders to the forum.

Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez, who will also be delivering a message at the forum, will be inducting newly-elected officers of Altavas Consumers Organization, Numancia Consumers Organization and ASU-Kalibo Consumers Advocates Club on the same day of the forum.

This year's Consumer Month's theme is "Consumers: Green Multipliers with the DENR as the lead agency. (PIA)
