ILOILO CITY, Sept. 15 (PIA6) -- The opening of the Iloilo Airport for international flights in November necessitates the hiring of more personnel, an airport official said.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Manager Efren Nagrama said in an interview that there is not even enough number to cater to the needs of about 7,500 passengers daily.

Nagrama said there will be more personnel coming in to cater to the needs of passengers coming in at midnight flights, as the international flights begin in November.

Presently, the airport personnel attend to operations from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. all throughout the seven days of the week.

He said, earlier the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has ordered the hiring of additional Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Officers to avoid overtime charges for its current employees.

During the peak season, which starts in November, the airport accommodates from 29 to 30 flights a day, while during off season, more or less 24.

As of 2011, Nagrama said the airport has already served more than 1.7 million passengers, more than the 1.6 million target for 2020 yet. (JCM/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)
