Iloilo City (11 December) -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) 6 has passed and approved a total of 80 resolutions for the year 2008, with 15 of which passed and approved on its 4th quarter meeting.

According to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 6 said among the important resolutions passed during the meeting held on December 5, in Roxas City, were on local planning harmonization, tourism management plan for Central Philippines, Gender Development Committee and the guidelines and issuances on PPA existing dumpsite.

The resolution on local planning harmonization is urging the strict observance of the guidelines on mainstreaming of national government agencies and thematic concerns in the local planning process.

Three resolutions passed by the Infrastructure Development Committee include the endorsement of flood control at the Iloilo Airport relocation site, urgent construction of bridges for rural development, funded by JBIC, and the proposed concreting of the Bingawan-Calinog national road.

On the other hand, the RDC also approved the organization of a Regional Gender and Development Committee as a special committee under its umbrella.

NEDA said this is a milestone for gender advocates as RDC will provide a venue for mainstreaming Gender and Development in the policies, programs, projects and activities of the region.

Another resolution approved was the holding of a forum to clarify issuances and guidelines on the existing dumping site for dredged soil and other materials from the Philippine Ports Authority port projects and for identifying alternative sites to protect the ecosystem.
