EDITED: Singaporean travel agents to visit West Visayas

ILOILO CITY, Oct 22 (PIA) -- With the opening of the Iloilo airport to international flights, Western Visayas will open its doors to Singaporean travel agents.

“These people will go all over the region to help us sell Western Visayas to Singaporean market,” Tourism-6 Director Helen Catalbas said in a radio interview.

The visit is in connection with Cebu Pacific’s international inaugural flight early next month.

The region will be benefited by the international routes of the Iloilo Airport as more inbound flights will mean more income for the region, Catalbas said.

“Let us remember that tourism is business,” she said, adding that as of the third quarter this year, Western Visayas has already contributed P33.5 billion in the economy of the region.

Noting the recently opened flights to General Santos City and Puerto Princesa, Catalbas said the new domestic routes at the Iloilo airport, aside from the international market, is seen to beef up the tourism industry in the country.

“The local routes will help fill the outgoing flights from Iloilo,” Catalbas said.

“The challenge, however, still remains with us, and that is to sustain the flights,” she said.

Catalbas reiterated her challenge to local tour operators to come up with interesting and distinct tour packages. (JCM/ESS-PIA-Iloilo)*
