CABATUAN TRIBUNAL HAUNTED BY KAPRE

CABATUAN TRIBUNAL HAUNTED BY KAPRE

Confesor says : — The tribunal at Cabatuan is haunted by kapre. At new moon one shows himself ; he smokes a great cigar, drags chairs around, and makes much noise late at night.

— One room in the tribunal is devoted to the telephone and the operator has his bed there. One night there was a knock at the door ; he had heard the floor creak a minute before, and felt sure it was a kapre. He lay still. The door opened, and the kapre entered. Though the operator had a revolver at his side, he was too scared to use it. The kapre looked at him, placed his two hands upon the man's cheeks, and moved the head from side to side. No response. He then lifted the man in that way quite from his bed, replaced him, and then left.

— The officer,, as it was inspection day, ordered one of the soldiers to clean the loft of the tribunal. This was early in the day. At the personal inspection the man did not appear, but the officer thought nothing of it, as he believed he was still cleaning the loft. When the man did not appear at lunch, a search was made. He was found lying, unconscious, in the loft. When he came to himself, he stated that as he was working he was attacked by three kapre, who left him unconscious.
