Urvan. . . there is a battle on the latest vehicles among the world's leading car makers at present. The 1989 vehicle registration of Japan shows that Toyota tops to-days market in vehicle industry. About 42 percent of the total number of vehicles registered last month in Japan were Toyota vehicles. In second and third places were Nissan and Honda respectively. In the top list of car models registered were six Toyota brands, three of which occupied the top three slots. These are the Toyota Corolla, Cressida and Crown. The other three Toyota models in the list ranked fifth, seventh and tenth, the Carina. Corona and Sprinter. Also in the top list are the Honda Civic: the Nissan Sunny and Bluebird; and the Mazda Famil;a. With this Skyracketing prestige Toyota enjoys, Nissan takes up the challenge by introducing its latest model the Nissan Sentra 1600, with a reported price of P360,000. Philippine Nissan Incorporated promotes the Senlra 1600 as "the only in its class with luxury car power features," for it has power steering, power windows, power door locks and power side view mirror. You name it. Mitsubishi makes it. No: only is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Japan's pioneer manufacturer jn shipbuilding and industry but also is a producer of some of the world's finest passenger automobiles. This aspect of Mitsubishi activity began with the Model A in 1917 and for the moment ends with the fine family of passenger cars including the Mitsubishi Gallant and Lancer, and the highly demanded Mitsubishi Palero. On and off the highway, Mitsubishi passenger cars, buses, trucks, and special purpose carriers transport people and cargo across city, country and continent efficiently, economically, dependably. Lately, the model that tops the market, the Mitsubishi Pajero, a sporty off-road vehicle, in its short span of existence, attracted innumerable buyers that makes it now as the latest craze in the car industry. With an estimated price of P750,000, Pajero becomes a highly demanded vehicle in the present. Nissan, a challenge of introducing Terrano 4 x 4, also an off-road vehicle, never dimmed the popularity Pajero now claims. Being a brand new model, this vehicle introduced by Mitsubishi reaped success in the market, for people "who has some" are eager to buy or even buying it, and most of the buyers are politicians. Today's world of commerce is tapped with the introduction of the Mitsubishi Pajero in different commercials. No matter what the cost, some leading companies use the Pajero as an eye catcher for more buyers by setting Pajeros as prizes in raffle draws. The effect to the customers came out positively. Today, more and more Filipinos are aiming towards acquiring such luxuries, Many Filipinos are now enjoying life's wiles and caprices - beautiful and expensive clothes, expensive jewelries, abundant food, comfortable vehicles ... Paiero. In the extreme, still, many Filipinos are trailing the path of abundance, as they try to take out a simple living. Still, many are homeless, many are hungry and many are helpless - victims of circumstances, victims of the curse of nature, recipient of lite's miseries. Comforts, vanities, luxuries, ambitions, Pajeros. What's next? Is ambition good for women? Is it merely a lust for the power they've never had? What causes fierce ambition in some, while others are satisfied with lesser achievements? The motivations behind ambition are varied, and some are healthier than others. Some people seek fame, some seek power, some simply want control over their lives. But the only way to distinguish healthy ambition from unhealthy is to analyze the drive behind it. What is an ambitious person really hoping to achieve? A healthy ambition comes from the desire to excel at a certain task, to advance yourself while contributing to the larger good of society. Unhealthy ambition is motivated by a need to compensate for a feeling of inadequacy. To want to achieve a goal according to your own standards is a healthy ambition. But to attempt to achieve something for inappropriate reasons - to beat out someone else, to prove superiority or if your goal is inherently not worth fighting for, then ambition is misplaced. A blindly ambitious person is self-destructive because she'll be missing altruism and generosity in her relationships which are keys to well-being. What makes some people more driven than others? The seeds of ambition are sown early on. A child who grows up in a family where reasonable goals are set for her usually learns to push herself. Children are more likely to be successful when parents set high standards but not impossible ones, and reward with praise. Other influencing factors are the child's sex, birth order and number of siblings. A second-born child might be very creative in an effort to out-perform an older sibling. Only-children may be more driven because they feel they bear the fullweiqht of parental hopes. A child from a large family may be more competitive because of having to vie for parental attention. But the most important factor for developing ambitiousness is that early if) life, a child learns the love of some pursuit, whether it's playing a musical, instrument or working with computers It becomes a source of satisfaction, and the child naturally wants to become proficient at it. A woman whose parents have en. couraged her explorations and initiative is more likely to be ambitious. The arenas of women's ambitions have opened up in the past couple of decades, which may be why it's increasingly common to hear women admitting their ambitiousness. And while it used to be said that women were not ambi- What hurts your good looks? 1. 1 oo much scents Could your perfume qualify as a form of air pollution? Studies show that, when concentrated, even an appealing scent can become unpleasant. Unpleasant aromas can affect the displeasure center of your brain. Why you're not aware of the overdose? Your nose becomes accustomed to a fragrance after you wear it for a few weeks, as a results, you may, unknowingly, apply to much. To avoid such, always start with clean, bare skin: dirt, sweat, and clothing can trap odors, altering or intensifying any scent. Be sure to use perfume on pulse points only. Lighten up on scent during busy, high pressure times - a stressed out body may exude fragrance more intensely. 2. Sun's rays damage Exposing unprotected skin to sun rays creates havoc in the form of wrinkles and, quite possibly, skin cancer. If a woman in her teens or twenties goes screenless, the cumulative effect will lop an average of ten years off her skin's youth. But there's good news too - your skin may be able to repair itself if you begin keeping harmful rays at bay now; use moisturizing sunscreen - bolstered cosmetics; or tious, that had more to do with the jobs that women were slotted into. Those positions didn't foster ambition. Or women who are intelligent, but got the message that to be competent is not feminine. Such people often feel ambitious but also need to defeat themselves. ;To page I I please) limit overall time spent in the sun (and that includes walking to school or work as well as basking on the beach). 3. Too much dieting Skinny is no longer in. A healthy looking body with rounded curves, a toned shape is in. So stop stringent dieting - you're literally starving yourself. That means your metabolism slows down, the immune System weakens hair and skin grows dull due to a lack of nutrients, even nails become brittle. If your do need to lose a few pounds, follow a sensible food plan balanced with a regiment of regular exercice. 4. Food vices Alcohol , cigarettes and caffeine aren't great for your appearanceparticicularly for your skin. A couple of drinks each week can inhibit the release of a natural diuretic, causing excessive fluid loss and leading to dull, flaking com• plexion. Smoking corners the market on lines-constant mouth puckering and eye-squinting, common during a drag, lead to premature wrinkling. Caffeine diminishes blood flow to the skin and can make you so jittery that you lose beauty sleep. Remedy? Sacrifice your vices. Your Beauty Hazards by: Leslie The Glow, September-December 1989.
