( MARCH 1997 '74 CILOW)m For academic excellence Cabatuananons in Austria to give cash awards to Four awardees 16 pass UPCAT Sixteen graduating students of the school passed the University of the Philippines Col­lege Admission Test (UPCAT) given some­time in November 1996 in the University of the Philippines-College of Arts and Sciences in Iloilo City. Of the 16 passers, four qualified for quota courses in the University of the Phil­ippines-Diliman, Quezon City. They are Beulah Grace Portillo, Allan Madarico, Juvi Caballero, and Michelle Sotelo. Two are qualified to study in the Uni­versity of the Philippines - Los Banos, Laguna. They are Noel Tolentino Jr. and Alfie Labanero. Niel Puga qualified to pursue his course in the University of the Philippines-Baguio City. Nine senior students of the school can be admitted to the University of the Philip­pines in the Visayas in Miag-ao, Iloilo. They are Jonah Bidaure, Marceline Algarve, Sophia Beba, Masy Can Sta. Rufma, Kenneth Gil, Cheryl Tabares, Joan Taburno, Shirley Rivera, and Madonna Celendro. CNCHS receives computer units Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School received 15 units of personal com? puters from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on December 20, 1996. According to Mr. Rodrigo Tacay, head of Science department of the school, each unit is provided with complete peripherals such as sound blaster, printers, AVR, CD? ROM, and mouse. Each is loaded with win? dows '95, the latest version of microsoft wid? ows. The 15 personal computer units were acquired by the school as prize of CNCHS for having been included among the top 20 Science and Technology-performing schools in the country. More than 100 secondary schools all over the country had been au­thorized by DOST to maintain Special Sci­ence Classes. These schools were evaluated on their performance. The newly acquired computer units will be placed in a computer room. Identified as the computer room of the school is the class­room of Miss Milagros Andon in the Sci­ence building. Miss Andon will hold classes in the new DOST-ESEP building. ra' (To page 39) Starting the school year 1997-1998, the Cabatuananons in Austria, will give cash awards to four outstanding students of the school. The awards will be given during the Graduation Day Program. This was disclosed by Luisa Mantiles, one of the coordinators of the project, in her letter to Mr. Victor S. Maroma, the president of the CNCHS Alumni Association. According to Mantiles, a Cabatuananon working in Austria the following are the terms and conditions of the cash awards: The cash award will be given to one outstanding student from each curriculum year or a total of four awardees who shall be selected by a screening committee created by the school administrator. Two major qualifications will be considered in choosing the awardees: academic excellence and financial standing The contingent of Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School demonstrated their superiority during the 41st Provincial Encampment of the Girl Scouts of the Phil­ippines, held at Camp Pasica, Dingle, Iloilo, on February 20-23, 1997. During the encampment, Melina Modelo of IV-A was adjudged as "Outstanding Camper." The CNCHS contingent became a recipient of four awards: Best in Semaphore Signalling, Best in Uniform, Best in Arts and of the family. The cash awards will be taken from the interest of the seed money deposited in a bank either through a one-year time deposit or a trust fund. The bank account should be in the name of the two school personnel. To implement the project, Corazon Aguero, another coordinator of the project of the Cabatuananons in Austria brought the seed money of the project when she came home for a vacation last February. The seed money or the initial amount deposited for the project was $1,220 which was converted to P31,996.61. The amount was deposited in Philippine National Bank on March 6. The signatories in the bank account are Mrs. Ofella. O. Subade, the administrative officer of the school, and Mr. 9&' (To page 39) Craft, Second Best in Choral Interpretation, and Third Best in Folk Dance. The school's contingent to the encamp­ment was composed of Melina Modelo, Rhea Isabel Rando, Francis Gerlyn Tronco, Heide Flor Coral, Sharon Padilla, Mary Joyce Ramas, Debra Joey Brunie, and Ramilie Ortega.
