NOVEMBER 1996
To arouse greater awareness of students on the evils of drug abuse, the Student Government of the school, in coordination with the Guidance Office, observed Drug Abuse Prevention and Control. The observance was capped by a program held on November 22 at the shop extension building.
Two resource speakers were invited to talk on drug-related topics. Rev. Al Seran, pastor of Cabatuan Fundamental Baptist Church, discussed the roots of drug abuse. He recommended to students measures which would save them from the pernicious effects of drug abuse.
To convince students that engaging in prohibited drugs is harmful, a former drug addict was invited to talk during the program. Ernesto Garancho,
a rehabilitated drug addict-turnedseminarian, related his personal experiences when he was hooked to prohibited drugs and how he got off the hook. He advised students never to taste prohibited drugs out of curiosity.
The program was climaxed by the burning of an effigy to dramatize the school's condemnation of prohibited drugs.
The school, through the Values Education department, observed Values Education Day on September 28. The sponsoring department made the observance simple by undertaking activities inside the classroom during regular class hours. The activities focused on values formation and appreciation.
One activity which the students enjoyed was the modern dance contest.
A modem dance contest was the only contest conducted during the observance of Values Education Day.
