PANAY ISLAND, Philippines (June 27, 2008) High above Panay Island, standing water is visible after the wake of Typhoon Fengshen. At the request of the government of the Republic of the Philippines, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) is off the coast of Panay Island providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response in the wake of Typhoon Fengshen. Ronald Reagan and other U.S. Navy ships are operating in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility to promote peace, cooperation and stability.

The Tigum River, located near Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan towns in Iloilo, is one of the major rivers that overflowed and contributed to the heavy flooding that occurred in Iloilo City. As the picture shows, the river's width significantly widened after the storm.

The group is off the coast of Panay Island and is transporting aid supplies throughout the island to areas hardest hit by the typhoon at the request of Philippine government.

The crew has been flying missions to the island delivering food and water to remote cities like Balasan. The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is off the coast of Panay Island providing humanitarian assistance and disaster response in the wake of Typhoon Fengshen. The region was hard-hit by Typhoon Fengshen and the "Black Knights" have been flying seven straight days delivering supplies to remote locations on the island.

The U.S. Navy is working with the Philippine army and air force to provide humanitarian relief to Philippine citizens affected by Typhoon Fengshen.
